Cancer Plan Waiting Time Milestones • Maximum two month wait from urgent GP referral to treatment for breast cancer by 2002 • Maximum one month wait from diagnosis to treatment for all cancers by 2005 • Maximum two month wait from urgent GP referral to treatment for all cancers by 2005 Goal: By 2008 no patient should wait longer than one month from urgent GP referral to treatment for all cancers ( unless clinical reason / personal choice )
Current Issues for the Cancer Network • Developing Cancer services to meet the various “Improving Outcomes Guidance” (IOG) • Peer Review • Improve the uptake of chemotherapy drugs approved by NICE
Actions for the PCT to maximise the effectiveness of the Cancer Network • Attend the Network Strategic Board Meetings. • Along with the other PCTs in the Network develop an agreed, clear & focused vision of the future development of cancer services that will deliver the targets in the National Cancer Plan and the IOG’s.
