  2. 2005 Summit • U.S. CLIVAR reorganized, first meeting of the new Panels • Developed scientific goals and areas of implementation and activity • Working Groups were identified as a key tool for implementation and engaging the wider community. Several ideas suggested. • Agreed to aggressively finalize goals and publicize them to the wider community

Since 2005 Summit • 2 Working Groups initiated • US CLIVAR Committee fully populated with at-large members • Town Hall meeting at AMS; first public airing of Panel goals • Interaction with the agencies begun, e.g. meeting with NOAA Prediction/Projection Program • Panels active to varying degrees in planning and implementation

  4. 2006 Summit Focus • Panel meetings!! • What should be the foci of US CLIVAR? • Implementation next steps • Panels concentrating on “what next” in terms of activities and coordination, leveraging existing research investments wherever possible; adding value to the research enterprise • Spin up at least three additional Working Groups • Articulate the motivation and integration across US CLIVAR; identify some marketing strategies to sell the program to budget resource managers

Summit Plan • Today • Overall directions of Int’l CLIVAR • Panel reporting on activities • Identify a few scientific foci; integrate across its Panels and Working Groups; & engage the interest and participation of the wider community • Panel meetings • Reception • Thursday (tomorrow) • Working Group and CPT reports • Ideas for new Working Groups? • Panel and inter-Panel meetings • Committee meeting (working dinner)

  6. Summit Plan • Friday • Panel reports on future activities; key scientific questions • Synthesis • How do we synthesize all of the activities of US CLIVAR to target our foci? • What marketing and promotional activities will be undertaken and by whom? • What Working Groups will be encouraged?

  7. Moving Forward • We’ve made substantial progress during the past year. We should be able to do even more during the coming year! • Identifying our foci • Implementation next steps • Panel lead activities • Working Groups • Integrating our activities; weaving together our story; promoting our program
