About KnowHow2GO • National college-readiness program primarily aimed at 8th, 9th and 10th grade students • EducationQuest sponsors KnowHow2GO in Nebraska • Provides 4 college-prep steps: • Be a pain – in a good way. • Push yourself. • Find the right fit. • Put your hands on some cash.

How we used KnowHow2GO: 9th grade • English 9 participated in a one-day KnowHow2GO session • Victor and Wynter from EducationQuest presented to students • Classroom teachers were present during the sessions • increased the connection to the curriculum
Comments from 9th graders “The information about how to start planning and saving for college was helpful.” “The cost of college was surprising!” “Where can I learn more about scholarships – and find some I qualify for?” “I was surprised that you could receive scholarships for things besides athletics or academics .”
How we used KnowHow2GO: 10th grade • After watching EducationQuest give the 9th grade presentation, we gave the same presentation to 10th graders • Presentations were easy to follow and user-friendly • Little prep time required
Course Registration(second “dose”) • When registering 9th and 10th graders, we referred back to the 4 KnowHow2GO steps • encouraged students to push themselves in classes and activities Algebra II
College Access Night(third time’s the charm) • Held KnowHow2GO sessions for parents in English and Spanish • Parents responded positively to the information

Career Day Schedule Period 1:KnowHow2GO Handbook Scavenger Hunt • College Doesn’t Just Happen Video and PowerPoint • “What it Takes” video and pledge Period 2: Panel of College Students • Pre-teach expectations and follow seating chart • 45 minutes Period 3: Calculating GPA Activity • Counting Credits Activity • Finding the Right Fit for College Period 4: In Computer Labs: Career Academy Search • College Profiles Period 5: Exploring Careers Scavenger Hunt • Cost of Education Activity
Career Day Schedule Periods 6and 7: CAREER FAIR • 4 sessions at 22 minutes each • Students have schedules indicating what classrooms they should attend • Students have 3 minutes between each presentation to get to their next speaker • Staff introduces speaker and helps monitor the classroom

Can a person expect pay raises and or job promotions? (Better than asking how much he/she makes.) • What do you like best about this occupation? Least? • What is your work environment like? Where do you spend most of your time? What kind of hours do you have? Are you mostly with people or alone? Is your schedule flexible? • How does your job affect your lifestyle and leisure time? • What advice would you give an 8th grader interested in your occupation?

About P4K • Goal-setting and group-mentoring program that builds hope for under-served students • Helps them create a foundation for success from kindergarten to careers • Serves more than 5,000 students in 21 participating Omaha Public Schools
P4K Group Mentoring • Students and mentors meet three times per month • Two of the meetings focus on curriculum modules like College Knowledge • The third meeting allows for real-world application of the material covered in the monthly curriculum • involves off-site activities like a college fair or campus visit
