Four ChemLuminary Awards in 2012 • “Outstanding Collaboration Between a Division and a Local Section” • Gibbs Award Symposium • Two Sessions at Summer 2011 ACS meeting in Denver • Commemorated 100th anniversary of the Gibbs medal • “Best WCC Program for IYC-2011” • Girl Scout Chemistry Patch • Girl Scouts learned about chemistry and earned a patch • Coordinated with Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago & Northwest Indiana • “Outstanding Local Section Younger Chemists Committee” • Six well-attended events • Great participation • Involved in outreach • “Best New Public Relations Program of a Local Section” • Video Interviews • 5-minute interviews with speakers • Topical interviews • Vimeo channel

Local/Division: Gibbs Symposium • Led by Dr. Ken Fivizzani • Gibbs award sponsored by Chicago Section since 1911 • Commemorated 100th year & IYC with two half-day symposia & a reception at ACS Meeting in Denver, summer 2011 • Coordinated with several National divisions: • HIST, COLL, COMSCI, I&EC, INORG, ORGN, PETR, PHYS • Of 27 living Medalists, 11 came to give presentations • Reception co-sponsored by Chicago Section, COLL, I&EC, and PHYS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willard_Gibbs_Award

WCC: Girl Scout Patch • Led by Fran Kravitz & devoted team • Motivation: Girl Scouts needed a merit badge or patch for chemistry • Chicago WCC developed a program of lectures, experiments, and discussions with women chemists • Coordination with Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana led to approval for patch program • Funded by ACS Innovative Project Grant • Named after Marie Curie • 30 girls earned patches in 2011! • Expanding program
