Local/Division: Gibbs Symposium • Led by Dr. Ken Fivizzani • Gibbs award sponsored by Chicago Section since 1911 • Commemorated 100th year & IYC with two half-day symposia & a reception at ACS Meeting in Denver, summer 2011 • Coordinated with several National divisions: • HIST, COLL, COMSCI, I&EC, INORG, ORGN, PETR, PHYS • Of 27 living Medalists, 11 came to give presentations • Reception co-sponsored by Chicago Section, COLL, I&EC, and PHYS http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willard_Gibbs_Award
WCC: Girl Scout Patch • Led by Fran Kravitz & devoted team • Motivation: Girl Scouts needed a merit badge or patch for chemistry • Chicago WCC developed a program of lectures, experiments, and discussions with women chemists • Coordination with Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana led to approval for patch program • Funded by ACS Innovative Project Grant • Named after Marie Curie • 30 girls earned patches in 2011! • Expanding program
