Y’s Men InternationalArea Europe The theme of EAY GA in Bratislava 2003 ”Inspired to serve” expresses what Y’s Men is The main purpose for a Y’s Men’s Club is to be service club for YMCA • Many YMCA leaders use a lot of time on fundraising and administration • The main purpose for a YMCA leader is to run programmes • A Y’s Men’s Club connected to the local YMCA helps YMCA leaders to concentrate on running YMCA-programmes

Y’s Men InternationalArea Europe How is a typical Y’s Men’s Club organized? • 15-40 members (males and females) • Board + 3 to -6 committees • Programme (for club meetings) • Projects for fundraising • Membership conservation + Extension for new members, • Social activities within the club • Relationsship to YMCA • 2-4 club- and committee meetings per month • Leadership is rotating • Board member for max. 3 years (elect/on/past) • Rotate every second year to a new committee • Committee chairman for one year

  9. Y’s Men InternationalArea Europe Who is a potential Y’s Men’s member? • Local businessmen • People who want to support YMCA • Former YMCA leaders • Grown up YMCA members Make it normal practice that a former YMCA leader/member joins the local Y’s Men’s Club

Y’s Men InternationalArea Europe How to start a Y’s Men’s Club • Find 2-4 persons (former members, members, supporters) • Visualize the idea for them • Ask for their commitment to find 20 potential members • Dedicate you own involvement for half a year • Formalize the work. Form a board (Presidium) - each person takes tasks to full fill (chair of a committee) • Involve new potential members from day one (the small groups grows) • Start regularly meetings from day one • Form meetings as Y’s Men’s meetings (members learns what Ys’ Men’s Meetings is)

Y’s Men InternationalArea Europe Typical structure of a club meeting 2 meetings per month • 1 business meeting – club internal affairs • 1 meeting including spouses, interesting speakers/subjects, social fellowship • Duration 2 hours • Meal • Report from committees and board • Discussion and decision making OR/AND • Social fellowship

Y’s Men InternationalArea Europe Advantages for both organisations: • Former YMCA-leaders supporting YMCA through Y’s Men • YMCA has a support team • YMC runs it’s own business - YMCA do not need to run YMC • Y’s Men gets new members • ”Principles of partnership” between YMCA and Y’s Men is signed on European level and national level • ”Principles of partnership” on local level • Formal reciprocal representation between YMC and YMCA
