This seminar discusses technical considerations, database systems, and value-added tools to improve the World Database on Protected Areas and enhance biodiversity conservation efforts. It also highlights the Andes Amazon Protected Areas Database and activities undertaken to update and disseminate data online. Collaboration with various organizations and the use of custom-made tools for conservation areas management are also addressed.

Meeting of Ecosystem/Protected Areas/Informatics Experts January 23, 2007 Objectives: 1. Technical considerations in improving the World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA) 2. IUCN Protected areas Conference • Assist Countries evaluate progress -- e.g. Biodiversity 2010, Jo berg 2012 targets (marine), scorecards and evaluation tools -- • Develop a user-friendly, decentralized system for storing, managing and reporting on trends in coverage for all biophysical and socio-economic aspects of PA's and biological corridors.
