KEI Introduction (Continued) KEI is Korea’s leading think tank on environmental policies and environmental impact assessment Established by the Korean government in 1993 as a public research institute and it has been at the core of development of environment agenda in Korea ever since Part of the Korea Council of Economic and Social Research Institutes under the Prime Minister’s Office Works closely with line ministries of the Korean government and provides policy recommendations and guidance to inform decision-making process Dedicated to mainstreaming environment for sustainable development, KEI’s research and analysis is based on an interdisciplinary approach combining environmental, economic, and social pillars of sustainable development works in partnership with a wide-range of stakeholders including line ministries, academia, international organizations, civil society and the private sector

Research Activities of KEI • Environmental Assessment Group • KEI is also mandated to review major development projects in Korea and conduct environmental impact assessment • KEI plays a key role in implementing Korea’s Environmental Impact Assessment Act by carrying out Prior Environmental Review System (PERS) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Division of Environmental Assessment Research Division of Environmental Assessment I Division of Environmental Assessment II

Research Activities of KEI • Korea Adaptation Center for Climate Change • In an effort to support Korean government’s proactive approach and strategy on climate change adaptation, KEI is hosting Korea Adaptation Center for Climate Change (KACCC) since July 2009 • KACCC seeks to enhance national adaptation capacity and ensure successful implementation of adaptation strategies by developing tools and methodologies on climate change adaptation Division of Planning and Cooperation Division of Adaptation Research

Research Activities of KEI • Global Strategy Center • With a growing recognition of the needs for enhanced collaboration and coordination beyond national level, KEI launched its Global Strategy Center in June 2010 to extend its body of work towards regional and global level • works as the main implementing arm of KEI’s global partnership and outreach activities, especially on technical cooperation and knowledge-sharing with developing countries • leads KEI’s research on green growth strategy for developing countries and review of Korea’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) on environment
