  1. Combining Transformations Math 8: Unit 2 Mrs. Tyrpak

  2. Coordinate Plane Today we are going to experiment with combinations of transformations to determine if the order matters. We are going to be working with 2 shapes: triangle and trapezoid. If you have access to scissors you can make your own shapes to match mine.

  3. Experiment #1 • Place the trapezoid on a coordinate plane and sketch the shape and label the vertices. • Translate the figure 3 units down, 5 units right, and reflect across the x-axis. Sketch and label. • Repeat step #2 by reversing the order.

  4. Experiment #2 • Place the triangle on the coordinate plane and sketch and label. • Rotate the figure 180 degrees around the point (0,0), move it up 4 units, and 3 to the right. Sketch and label. • Repeat step #2 by reversing the order.

  5. Does order matter?

  6. Thanks for your attention! Don’t forget to complete your practice and application worksheets. Remember geometry is VERY visual, so whenever possible sketch a picture of what is going on and label EVERYTHING you know 
