IEEE - TELUS Student Competition Project Requirements • Strong design or research component • Emphases on design that "embodies the spirit of innovation" • Project will be carried out at an undergraduate institution based in Canada. Prize Awards • 1st award prize: CAD 10,000 cash honorarium and certificates for the student/student team. • 2nd award prize: CAD 5,000 cash honorarium and certificates for the student/student team. • 3rd award prize: CAD 2,000 cash honorarium and certificates for the student/student team. • Up to 6 runner-ups: CAD 500.00 cash honorarium and certificates for the student/student team
Competition Timeline and Eligibility Schedule (Competition is a four tiered event starting June 1st and ending in the fall) Level 1: Competition within each student branch Level 2: Winning entry from branch may be entered in regional competition Level 3: the entries for each area (Eastern, Central and Western Canada Areas) will be ranked based on the written submission. Level 4: Up to three entries per council are selected for the final competition, where the students will present their projects live to a panel of judges. Eligibility 1. The student(s) must receive academic credit for this project - exceptions may be granted upon request 2. The student team may not have more than 5 team members 3. The student(s) must be IEEE student members(s) 4. Student completing final year in an engineering or technology program at a university or college in Region 7
Judging and Selection Process Nomination Package • Submission of the project report • Nomination letter from a faculty member involved with the project (most likely the project supervisor) • Nomination letter from the Branch Counselor or Department Chair Person (for the regional competition) • Proof of academic credit for this project • Proof of IEEE student membership for the student/all team members Basis for Judging • creativity and innovation • the practical application of engineering fundamentals and engineering judgment • The quality of the written report presentation. • The quality of the verbal report presentation.
