  2. What it does….

  3. Nouns…. What is a noun? It is a person, place, thing, or an idea. Example #1 The family felt tremendous relief that the snake had passed us. Example #2 At night, the pack of wolves circled the path.

  4. Your Turn…. A competition was held, and the architect was chosen to build the landmark.

  5. The team dumped cool water on the coach after the excitement of beating Discovery.

  6. Author’s Craft (Taken from Twilight pg. 33) When I got home, I unloaded all the groceries, stuffing them in wherever I could find an open space. I hoped Charlie wouldn’t mind. I wrapped potatoes in foil and stuck them in the oven to bake, covered a steak in marinade and balanced it on top of a carton of eggs in the fridge.

  7. Specific Nouns…. Example #1 Different things decorated the ceiling of the gym as we walked into the dance.

  11. Your Turn…. The man sat under a tree as an animal looked on taunting him.

  13. Now as a group… Red Language Network Textbook pg. 38 (1-10) Write the nouns only.

  14. II. Adding Adjectives What is an adjective? A word that describes a noun. Example #1: The teenager wore a silky dress underneath her winter coat. Example #2: Dirt- stained jerseys dotted the football field.

  15. Your turn… The lineman stood his ground against the grimacing rival. The ancient trophy was handed over to the excited players after the recent victory.

  16. Graveyard: Revisions By the graveyard, leaves sweep through the city. Winds dance through powerfully as the graveyard seems undisturbed. A stillness covers the road. Suddenly, footsteps approach the city and stop. An angel rests on top of the rusted gateway with the letters DAR carved on top. Souls lay beneath the graveyard and the road where the graveyard once reached. Moss hangs from the trees.

Directions: Underline the nouns and circle the adjectives in the following sentences: • Alison is an inventive teenager from Texas. • Alison has a muscular disability and uses a wheelchair. • She invented a portable ramp that helps disabled people move over curbs. • She had only a few weeks to create an original design for a local contest. • She first considered and rejected an awkward ramp made of rubber. (If you cannot read this clearly, look on # 1-5 on pg. 602 in your Language Network textbook.)
