  2. Materials

  3. Distilled bottled water • 3 oz. plastic cups • Small test tube w/cap from florist • 1 Tsp. of dish soap mixed with 3 Tsp. water • 1 Tsp. Gatorade • Very cold Ethyl Alcohol 91% or greater keep on ice • Disposable pipettes • Paper towels

  4. Collect Cells from Mouth • Put Gatorade in mouth. Wash around. Scrape tongue against teeth to take off cells. Then spit Gatorade out into 3 oz. cups. • Add “Cell Gatorade” to test tube and add solution of 1 Tsp. dish soap with 3Tsp. Water. • Gently rock test tube. Don’t cause bubbles in the tube. • Then add 1 Tsp. of very cold Ethyl Alcohol. • Strands of DNA should appear.

  5. In my experiment I did the DNA test on me, my dad, and my dog. • The DNA appeared in me and my dad’s test tube very well but we could not see any strands in Cricket’s (my dog) test tube. • Since we could not make Cricket spit out the Gatorade we swabbed his mouth instead.
