  2. What does the name FROSIO mean ? It is a shortening of Norwegian words: FFaglig R Råd for O Opplæring og S Sertifisering av I Inspektører innen O Overflatebehandling

  3. FROSIO The Norwegian Professional Council for Education and Certification of Inspectors for Surface Treatment

  4. Establishment of FROSIO A new profession was established in Norway: in 1985 • Surface preparation This included the following 4 professions: • Galvanizer • Hot dip galvanizer • Thermal sprayer • Industrial painter

  5. Establishment of FROSIO Norway had traditional shipbuilding and did training of paint inspectors on-the-job basis. Inspectors normally came from the paint industry. In 1970 building of oil installations started in Norway. After the upgrading of the applicators was established in 1985, it was necessary also to upgrade the inspectors. FROSIO wasestablished in1986

  8. Accreditation • FROSIO has an accreditation in accordance with ISO 17024 and NS 476:2004 • It is a requirement for a ”fire wall” between education and certification

  9. Accreditation • FROSIO is therefore not dealing with training, only EXAMINATION and CERTIFICATION

  11. The FROSIOcertification system Certifies inspectors in accordance with Norwegian Standard NS 476:2004

  12. Who can be certified? All candidates have to attend a 80 hours training course and pass the examination

  14. NS 476 • NS 476:2004 do not ask for education only relevant experience

  15. Relevant experience for certification Work directly connected to: • Pre-treatment of metallic surfaces • Application of paints and coatings for corrosion prevention • Inspection of such work

  16. How to obtain relevant experience Work obtained within one or more of the fields below: Construction and/or operation ormaintenance of: • Harbour installations • Ship • Marine- and Offshore installations • Buildings • Power stations • Bridges • Industrial plants

  17. How to obtain relevant experience The following experiences are also considered as relevant: • Building industy • Workshops • Chemical process • Paint coating industries

  18. NS 476 NS 476:2004 describes 3 levels of crtificates: • Inspector candidate level I:Whitecertificate • Inspector level II:Green Certificate • Inspector level III: Red certificate

  19. Inspector candidate level IWhitecertificate Candidates who do not have any or insufficient relevant experience

  20. Inspector level II Green Certificate Candidates shall have minimum 2 years relevant experience.

  22. Inspector level III Red certificate Candidates shall have at least 5 years relevant experience where minimum 2 years of these 5 yearsshall be documented as inspection practice

  23. TheFROSIOcertification system

  24. Maintaining the FROSIO Certificate • A certificate expires after 5 years + 180 days • The inspector is responsible to notify the FROSIO Secretariat in due time • A minimum of 2 years inspection practice shall be documented • A renewal fee will be charged

  25. The FROSIO examination includes: 4½ hours theoretical part Questions and answers and 4½ hours practical part 15 stations with different tasks

  26. Examination • Theoretical examination Max score for this examination is 150 points You must have min. 100 points (66,6%) to pass • Practical examination Max score for this examination is 48 points You must have min. 32 points (66,6%) to pass
