  1. The Veldt By Ray Bradbury A Reader Response Activity

  2. Pre-Reading • Write down three technological features (either present day or futuristic) that you would like to have in your house to make your life easier. For each choice explain how your feature would be a positive in your life and a negative. • For example Ms. Walker and Mr. Wilson both want to have a set of diaper changing arms in their babies’ rooms. The positive result of these arms would be, obviously, no more changing of poopy diapers. The negative impact would be less time that the babies have contact with their parents and yet more time with technology.

  3. While you read The Veldt • Pay attention to what you are thinking and feeling and your opinions. In doing so, you are responding to literature using reader response. Reader response is the relationship between the reader and the text. These responses differ between all students as they are based on each persons own experiences, prejudices, biases, and conceptions. Your answer is unique and reveals something about you as a person, as well as the text you have read.

  4. Types of Questions for Reader Response General: • What do you think? • How do you feel? • What is your opinion? You will be asked specific questions for The Veldt, but pay attention to: your reaction to the parents and their relationship with their children, the rules of the house, the suspense created by Bradbury

  5. : • Read The Veldt and complete reader-response acvitities.
