Identify the common noun • Stanton Middle School has lots of students in the building. • Homework can sometimes be hard. • I wish I was in bed right now sleeping.
Singular Nouns • A singular noun names one person, place, thing, or idea. • Example: My sister, Angie, is older than me. (sister is a singular noun)
Plural Noun • Names more than one person, place, thing, or idea. • Example: I have two older sisters. (sisters is plural)
Forming Plurals • To form the plural of most singular nouns, add –s. Examples: painters museums shelters events attitudes students
Forming Plurals • When a singular noun ends in s, sh, ch, x, or z, add (es). Examples: dresses brushes coaches boxes waltzes foxes
Forming Plurals • When a singular noun ends in o, add (-s) to make it plural. Examples: concertos cameos pianos solos patios stereos
Forming Plurals For some nouns ending in an o preceded by a consonant add –es. Examples: heroes potatoes echoes tomatoes vetoes
