  1. The Makkan Stage الرحمن The Most Merciful علم القرآن Taught the Qur'an, خلق الإنسان Created man, علمه البيان [And] taught him eloquence.

  2. The Makkan Stage Abdullah ibnMas’ood said: “By Allah, they are more insignificant in my eyes today than they were yesterday. By Allah, they are uncomfortable than I am, and I would surely go back and recite again”.

If We had sent down this Qur'an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of Allah . And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought. (Al-Hashr: 21)

  4. The Makkan Stage Abu Sufyan said: ‘O Abu Tha’labah! By Allah, I have heard things that I know and the aim of which I know, and I have heard other things the meaning of which I do not know and the aim of which I do not know.’ Al-Akhnas then said: ‘By Him by Whom you have sworn, the same applies to me.’ ***

  5. The Makkan Stage He (Abu Jahl) said: ‘What I have heard! We entered in rivalry with Banu ‘AbdManaf for reputation. They entertained others and we did; they gave others a ride and we did; they gave others and we did, till we got ready on our knees like two racing horses, and then they said: ‘There has risen amongst us a Prophet who receives Revelation from heaven.’ When can we get like this (privilage)? I swear by Allah that we shall never express belief in him and shall never believe his claim.’”

  6. The Makkan Stage Khabaabibn al-Arat: He would be whipped and struck with iron bars He was a blacksmith so he would be tortured with fire Burning coal would be placed on his naked back Khabaab struck fear in Quraysh – if someone with no tribal support would accept Islam and face torture, will others follow?

  7. The Makkan Stage BilalibnRabaah experienced the worst of torture: His neck would be tied and he would be strangled He would be starved He would be placed on the burning, hot floor UmmayyahibnKhalaf would place a large rock upon his chest that would almost cause him to die. Bilal said: “By Allah, if I knew a word that would enrage you more than this word, then I would say it.”

  8. The Makkan Stage Khabbab (ra) narrates that once during the heat of the persecution they went to the Prophet. The Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was seated in the shade of the Ka'abah, leaning against the Ka’abah. We went to him and pleaded with him, '0 Messenger of Allah, now persecution has gone to its extreme; why do you not pray to Allah (for relief)?' The Prophet (saw) said 'The believers before you were persecuted much more than you. Their flesh was scraped from their bones with combs of iron and their heads were cut with saws, but even this did not deter them from their religion. I assure you that Allah will bring this affair of his, this religion to a completion so much so there will be peace and security, so that a woman will be able to travel from Sanna to Hadramaut, across the desert, safely and all alone, and a man will be able to travel the same journey fearing no one except the occasional wolf that may devour his sheep. But you are a people that are hasty”.

  9. The Makkan Stage The Family of AmmaribnYasir: Abu Jahl would torture them all, SummayyahbintKhayyat, Yasiribn Amir, and AmmeribnYasir. “Have patience O family of Yasir...your appointed time is in Paradise”

Whoever disbelieves in Allah after his belief... except for one who is forced [to renounce his religion] while his heart is secure in faith. (Surat An-Nahl: 106).

And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah , the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy. (Surat al-Buruj: 8)

  12. The Makkan Stage وسيجنبها الأتقى But the righteous one will avoid it – الذي يؤتي ماله يتزكى [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded

But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. And he is going to be satisfied. (Al-Layl: 17-21)

And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood. Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber.

  15. The Makkan Stage The Messenger of Allah said, «لَوْ دَنَا مِنِّي لَاخْتَطَفَتْهُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عُضْوًا عُضْوًا» (If he had come near me, the angels would have snatched him limb by limb.)

For those who do good in this world is good, and the earth of Allah is spacious. Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account."
