2. What is a blizzard? A blizzard is when strong winds are used to make a severe snowstorm and it happens when it’s in low temperature. There’s a difference between blizzard and a snowstorm is the strength of the wind.

3. Where do blizzards happen? Blizzards can occur anywhere with snow. They are most frequent at places with high latitudes where there is frequently cold weather and where wind is easily generated. Such places as United States, Eastern Europe, Great Plains of Canada and in parts of the Southern Hemisphere. 4. Blizzard in Serbia On the 2nd of February 2012, Blizzards occurred in Serbia with a low temperature of -26.5 degrees. The horrible weather has caused 114 deaths, 11,000 Serbians who lived in remote villages were trapped. The heavy snow and blizzards have also make the roads not able to pass. The snow was up to five meters high in some areas.

5. Warning Signs of a Blizzard There are 3 warning signs of a Blizzard. • Wind • Blizzards are proved to be dangerous because of strong winds and cold temperatures combining to create a strong wind chill. If winds picks up, a blizzard may be imminent. Look for rusting tree leaves or shaking signs of mailbox. Be careful not to go too far from safety if you suspect a blizzard. • Snowfall • You can predict snowfall and the possibility of a blizzard in a few ways. A gray skyline with clouds low in the sky that line rain clouds often means snow. A halo around the sun or moon also shows that its snow. If it is snowing already, a blizzard is more likely to happen. If the snow falls consistently and clouds still appear heavy, a blizzard is most likely to happen • Watch the Animals • Animals can sense weather changes and vibrations in the earth that humans can’t experience. If birds that normally appear on a tree are now missing, or your pet dog is acting strange, a blizzard is more likely to occur. Birds often fly lower in the air before a snowstorm and animals such as rabbits and chipmunks often avoid leaving their resting places.

7. How to survive when you’re caught in the Blizzard? • If they are at home, • If electricity goes out, use an alternative form of heat with caution. • Stay in one room for heat and close off unnecessary rooms in the house. • Keep hydrated and nourished in case the heat is out for an extended period. • Pets must be protected from the cold. When temperatures drop below freezing, outdoor pets should be moved indoors. • If they are in a car, • Never leave the vehicle. • It is fine to run the car for short periods to provide some rest. Remember to crack the windows a small amount to allow for the circulation of fresh air. • Keep yourself moving. A car offers a little room for you to keep your blood flowing, but exercise is a must. Clap your hands, stomp your feet, and move around as much as possible at least once an hour. • Make the car visible for a rescue. Hang bits of bright colored sloth or plastic from the windows. If the snow has stopped falling, open the hood of the car as a single of distress.
