EMnet Setup: Receiver Configuration
The EMnet receiver program is the heart of the EMnet messaging system. It is responsible for all communications and is designed to be running at all times while the computer is powered on.
Once the EMnet software has been installed, the receiver program automatically starts when Windows starts. If Windows does not start, neither will EMnet! Be sure the computer will not be stuck unattended at a login prompt!
Initialization Dialog When the EMnet Receiver starts, the Initialization Dialog below appears for 30 seconds. If you click Initialize now, EMnet will load immediately. If you click Cancel, EMnet will not load. If you click Reconfigure, EMnet will open the Configuration dialog.
Receiver Configuration You may also enter the Configuration dialog by right-clicking on the satellite icon and selecting Reconfigure Receiver. NOTE: Selecting Reconfigure Receiver will temporarily interrupt EMnet reception.
Receiver Configuration If you choose to open the CONFIGURATION dialog, you may be required to enter the case-sensitive password.
Receiver Configuration This will open the EMnet Receiver Configuration dialog.
Receiver Configuration Click here if your station is using a satellite downlink. NOTE: Comlabs highly recommends that EMnet stations use satellite communication as well as TCP/IP to maximize speed, efficiency, reliability, and redundancy. HOWEVER, if satellite communication is not possible, your station may be configured to use TCP/IP only.
Receiver Configuration If a satellite feed is present: The listen-on field will be grayed out and automatically filled in with your IP address, unless there are multiple network cards on the computer. If there are multiple network cards, the pull-down will allow you to select the one on which the computer can expect to find the satellite receiver.
Receiver Configuration If a satellite feed is present: The Multicast Address will be filled in automatically.
Receiver Configuration If a satellite feed is present: The default Port entry is 7770. Use this port if you are using: - a 2-way Vsat system, - an internal satellite receiver card, or - an external NOVRA satellite receiver box.
Receiver Configuration If a satellite feed is present: If the satellite receiver you are using is an external Westport Research receiver box, enter 7777 for the port.
Receiver Configuration If a satellite feed is present: If you are using an external Westport Research receiver, you may fill in the Receiver Address with the IP address of the ethernet port on the satellite receiver if you wish. Otherwise, leave the receiver address as 0.0.0.0.
Receiver Configuration If there is no satellite feed present: If your station is not using a satellite, make certain the checkbox for Data from a satellite downlink is present on this network is NOT checked.
Receiver Configuration If there is no satellite feed present: Enter a time frequency for your computer to check the server for new messages, between 30 seconds and 15 minutes.
Receiver Configuration The next step is to enter the zip code of the computer’s location.
Receiver Configuration Remote Alerter is an additional EMnet software package that may be used to broadcast message notifications to other computers on your network. If you wish to configure the EMnet Receiver to work with Remote Alerter, click here. For more information on Remote Alerter, see the Remote Alerter Module
Receiver Configuration By default, Automatically run on startup is checked. This causes EMnet to start automatically when the computer is booted up.
Receiver Configuration Adjust clock periodically is disabled on computers running Vista, but is available on XP machines. The server regularly sends out “heartbeats” over the satellite, which include a time stamp. EMnet can use this timestamp to ensure that your computer’s time is accurate.
Receiver Configuration When you have selected whether the satellite downlink is present, click Next.
Receiver Configuration From this dialog, you can configure your station’s tcp/ip connection to the EMnet server.
Receiver Configuration Make sure this is checked if the computer has internet access through the LAN, or through a broadband Internet Service Provider.
Receiver Configuration If more than one TCP/IP gateway is defined, you may click Advanced to build a list of additional gateways.
Receiver Configuration This will bring up the Gateways dialog. Using this dialog, you may build a list of gateways for EMnet to use.
Receiver Configuration This will bring up the Gateways dialog. Using this dialog, you may build a list of gateways for EMnet to use. Use Windows Defaults is automatically checked. Leave this selected to use gateways already defined as part of the Windows networking setup, or uncheck it to add new gateways in the dialog above.
Receiver Configuration This will bring up the Gateways dialog. Using this dialog, you may build a list of gateways for EMnet to use. Hit OK when the gateways are configured as desired.
Receiver Configuration Selecting Finish causes all information to be saved in an encrypted file. The EMnet Receiver then initializes and places its satellite icon in the system tray.
View Configuration You may view your configurations by right-clicking on the satellite icon and selecting View Configuration.
View Configuration The View Configuration dialog allows you to view all of your existing settings, but does not allow you to change them.
View Configuration Unlike the Reconfigure Receiver dialog, opening the View Configuration dialog will not interrupt EMnet reception.
About This Program You can also find useful system information by right-clicking on the satellite icon and selecting About This Program.
About This Program About This Program will tell you: Software version information Your station’s assigned address Your station’s serial number The groups your station is subscribed to Location information, including latitude and longitude, based on the zip code entered in the Configuration dialog
About This Program This screen also shows what software is authorized for your station. EMnet will look for software updates from the EMnet Server, to be sure that your station’s EMnet software is always up-to-date.
About This Program If the box reads, No software has been authorized, that means that the EMnet server is not currently comparing your station’s software with the current baseline. As new production software becomes available, this software will be authorized for your station.
