  5. Why use Definitions? Definitions allow us to understand what we are reading.

  6. Content Area Vocabulary Strategy Why is using a vocabulary strategy important? Allows students to find and highlight unfamiliar words. Allows students to feel confident because all students are working to learn new words. Allows for orderly vocabulary assignments.

  7. Group Instruction • Grouping students in small numbers allows for: • Brainstorming • Multiple ideas • Collaboration

  8. After Definitions are Complete, Students will: • Describe Preamble • Work independently • Collaborate • Check complete assignment using rubric

  9. Description • Students will give a description of what they believe their section of the Preamble means.

  10. Independent Input Students will each write what they believe their section of the Preamble means to them.

  11. Collaboration Students will then choose the definition they all agree with for what their Preamble selection means. Group members will then compare the different meanings given to their selection of the Preamble. • Students will read their opinion of what the Preamble means to them to the members of their group.

  12. Assessment Rubrics Why Give Assessment Rubrics? Gives students expectations and a reason for working hard. Allows students to know assignment format.
