SHIP DECOMMISSIONING STRATEGY - 1 GUIDELINE ON DECOMMISSION (GUIDEC) • Develop guiding tool providing recommendations on onboard precautions prior to demolition • Practical measures - may involve actions of the following categories: • CLEANING • CLOSEDOWN OF SYSTEMS • REMOVAL (Systems, components, consumables) • SECURING (prep. for hot-work)
SHIP DECOMMISSIONING STRATEGY - 2 ENVIRONMENTAL VERIFICATION PROCEDURE (ENVER) • Develop onboard 3rd. party verification tool • Will enable onboard substance verification including: • Identifying • Localising • Quantifying onboard hazardous wastes • Will provide input in the process of planning the demolition process
SHIP DECOMMISSIONING STRATEGY - 3 SHIP INVENTORY DOSSIER - ENVIRONMENT (SIDE) • Environmental inventory declaration standard Using input from ENVER, a hazardous waste statement is provided identifying waste-categories and linking these to international regulations • Enable requirements to be identified (facilities at the breaking yard) • Applicable for new-buildings. Can be integrated in a ECO-toolbox design approach( LCC/ LCA)
The Decommissioning process;Decision - Demolition - Recycling/ Re-use
SHIP DECOMMISSIONING STRATEGY • SIDBASE - Relation database concept organising data and producing ship-type specific tools (Checklists) • Practical actions performed by crew (GUIDEC - Action-list generated by SIDBASE) • Verification procedures (structural waste included) by 3rd. Party (ENVER - Checklist generated by SIDBASE) • Date (GUIDEC/ ENVER) returned to SIDBASE • Environmental material composition statement generated (SIDE generated by ENVER/ SIDBASE)
