Welcome. Mrs. Pickett’s 4 th grade. Meet Mrs. Pickett. I graduated from the University of Memphis with my Bachelor’s Degree in 2007. I completed my Reading Specialist in 2009. This is my 6 th year to teach. This is my 2 nd year in 4 th grade.

  2. Meet Mrs. Pickett • I graduated from the University of Memphis with my Bachelor’s Degree in 2007. • I completed my Reading Specialist in 2009. • This is my 6th year to teach. • This is my 2nd year in 4th grade. • I am married and have one 2 year old named Jack!

  3. Dates to remember • August 15th-Bank Day • August 17th-Last day to walk students to class • August 20th-First day for visitors to eat lunch with students • August 23rd-PTO Meeting at 6:00; Domino’s Night; Fundraiser Kickoff

Colored Subject Folders 6 subject folders- different colors Keep all study guides and references pages inside these folders Keep returned hw and classwork inside these folders until test time…you may discard it after the test NEVER throw away study guides…you will need them when we begin studying for TCAP

  7. Monday Folders: Red folder handed out on Monday Contains Weekly Progress for AR, conduct, and graded papers Sign Weekly progress page and return. Keep the graded papers to use as study guides.

  8. Discipline/Policies and Procedures • Clips • S, S-, N, U • Agenda-sign each night- 2 oops passes each nine weeks • T.R.A.C.K. points • Refer to Policy and Procedure packet

  9. T.R.A.C.K.-Tremendous, Respectful, And Courteous Kids • T.R.A.C.K. programs will be each 9 weeks. • Each student begins the 9 weeks with 0 points. • Points are deducted for not following classroom rules. • Students losing more than 10 points will not be able to attend the T.R.A.C.K. program. • 0-10 points = S in conduct • 11-20 points = N in conduct • 21+ points = U in conduct

  10. AR (Accelerated Reader) • Books will be chosen based on STAR reading test given each 9 week period. • Students will choose books within this level. Not above or below-this range will be appropriate for independent reading and growth. • Students will test on books and can check out new ones when necessary. • Goals will be set and explained in the next few days for points students need to earn. • At the end of the nine weeks, students will earn a grade by averaging their test score average and their percentage of meeting their goal.

  11. Wish List and Class Helpers • From time to time you will see a Wish List on our Newsletter and Website. • If you would like to assist in cutting out lamination, coding books, or sorting Scholastic orders please let me know today.

  12. Lunch • Regular lunch: 1 entrée, 2 vegetables, fruit, milk • $2.00 • Extra entrée: $1.50 • Extra side: $.50

  13. Homework • Will be written on board each day. • Monday and Tuesday night homework will be the same each week: • Monday-Spelling sentences • Tuesday- Reading Vocabulary • Thursday-Math practice • Explanation of HW will be found in back cover of ROCK binder. • To be completed by student and turned in next school day. If not turned in and no note provided, it will be finished during recess.

  15. What can I do to help my child? • Go over the weekly graded papers. • Utilize resources at the end of the powerpoint. • Check/sign agenda each night for homework, notes, and conduct. • Have them read each night- have a designated time/space for this to take place!

  16. Learning Styles: • Visual-see it or write it • Auditory- hear it or re-teach it • Kinesthetic/Tactile- move around, acting it out

MULTIPLICATION • Learn the facts!! • We will begin TIMED tests on these in the 2nd nine weeks! • Use Multiplication reference page in Math folder. • Suggestions: write on index card and place on bathroom mirror, make flashcards, repeat them in the car, make a song, check out some multiplication cd’s • Check my Favorite Websites for help to study. • Practice, Practice, Practice!!!
