Visits • Continue to visit prospective colleges Bishop Ludden College Fair: 9/30 SUNY Open House (check suny.edu) • Meet with College Reps in the CRC List outside CRC and on NAVIANCE Sign up in the CRC Free Apps??
APPLICATIONS 2 Year Colleges (OCC, Monroe, Finger Lakes) - online or download directly from college website - check for additional requirements for specialized programs - apply early to ensure housing, class placement, etc.
APPLICATIONS • SUNY online application www.suny.edu - $40 per school - complete Part 1 on-line - print Counselor Section - request Transcript from CRC - check for Part 2/Supplemental Requirements
APPLICATIONS • Common Application www.commonapp.org - used by over 65 colleges in NYS (15 SUNY) - cost varies by college - complete online (print a copy for your records) - check for supplemental requirements by college - submit counselor forms/school report to CRC
APPLICATIONS • Private University (Syracuse, Cornell, Canisius, etc.) - complete online or download from college website - application fee will vary - check for all supplemental requirements (CSS Profile) - some may only use Common App
APPLICATIONS • 4 Year Colleges - Early Decision: A binding agreement between the student and college. If the student is admitted ED, they must attend. Students can only apply ED to one college and must withdraw all other applications if they are accepted under ED. - Early Action: Non – binding. Students apply early to get an admissions decision (typically before January). Students can use this option for multiple schools.
Supplemental Materials • TRANSCRIPTS - check for accuracy - official transcripts are required by every college - YOU must request they be sent from the CRC - Rank and GPA will appear on your official transcript; available the 2nd week of October
Supplemental Materials • Letters of Recommendation - request only one teacher recommendation unless your college specifically requires more - pick up the recommendation form in CRC - complete waiver information
Supplemental Materials Letter of Recommendation - if you use Common App you still need to give teachers the CRC form - give 2-3 weeks notice - send a “THANK YOU” card!!!!!
Supplemental Materials • TEST SCORES - SAT/ACT/SAT II/AP - YOU are responsible for making sure your test scores are sent from the testing agency - score are not included on the transcript - wait to send AP scores
Supplemental Materials • Essays - one chance to personalize your application - read the question/understand the instructions - proofread, edit, revise, proofread again! - don’t send Nazareth essay to LeMoyne!!
Supplemental Materials • Senior Year Grades/Mid Year Reports - many colleges will request these items - don’t slack off just because you are a senior! - CRC will send upon your request
APPLICATION PROCESSING • Mrs. Alberts and Mrs. Lamb will be your primary contacts for processing applications • After online submission, go to the CRC to request transcript and complete processing form • 15 school days are required for processing • You are strongly encouraged to BEAT deadlines
APPLICATION PROCESSING • Envelopes and stamps will need to be provided for all transcript requests • You can bring in a book of stamps if you will be submitting multiple applications • Business size envelopes work best
NAVIANCE • Update your college choices • Look for upcoming visits (“VISIT SCHEDULE”) • Check for scholarship opportunities (“SCHOLARSHIP LIST”) • Complete Senior Questionnaire (“SENIOR SURVEY”)
TIPS and REMINDERS • Read directions carefully • Beat Deadlines!!!!!!!!!!! • Ask Questions (Counselors and CRC) • Know your user IDs and passwords • Use your full legal name • Read all mail from colleges to which you apply • Only you can turn in applications and request transcripts
