Graduation • Information regarding senior year: graduation gowns, ordering invitations, scholarships, information regarding FAFSA, etc. will be posted on our website, senior news letter, facebook etc. • Financial Aid Night will be held on Jan 22nd at 6:30. • ASK for help if you need it! That is what we are here for! If we don’t know the answer we will help you find it!
Senioritis- is a colloquial term used in the United States and Canada to describe the decreased motivation toward studies displayed by students who are nearing the end of their high school careers. Please stay informed, keep up with their grades and……..
September Senior Meetings • Students Reviewed their transcripts • We asked them to check to see if lane was correct. • We talked about the number of credits they needed to graduate required/elective. • We discussed ECA’s/Waiver. • We discussed Grade replacement and ECA. • Did YOU see the packet we asked them to bring home???? • Students who do not have the required credits will not be allowed to walk at the commencement ceremony.
APEX-Board Approved Fees (9/27) for Online learning with Virtual Academy • Credit Recovery $50 • Schedule Conflicts- $50 • Grade Advancement/Grade Replacement $50 registration & $200 course fee
Senior Checklist • Should have taken ACT/SAT at the end of Junior year or N-O-W • Apply to Colleges- first semester if possible before Nov/December 1st to qualify for some scholarships • Watch for Scholarships which are advertised in the spring.
Applying to a College/University/ Trade School/Military. • No matter what your student’s future plans are they will need to send a copy of their transcript. • What is Parchment? Link can be found on Centrals home page.
Transcript Requests Have you signed a “Release of Information “ form/is your child 18? Yellow release form should have been brought home by the student after our senior meeting /parchment signature may or may not be needed. Please allow 5 days for processing a transcript with Parchment and allow 10 days if you need a recommendation letter from the counselor.
Procedure for College Applications • Go to the specific college’s website and complete the online application. Pay the application fee online with a credit card, or mail a check via US Mail. If you are on free and reduced lunch, see your counselor about a fee waiver. • Log on and register at www.parchment.com, follow the instructions to request your transcript and ask that it be delivered to the college you are applying to. If there is a fee you can request it be mailed. • Your counselor will receive your transcript request from parchment and any requests the college has for a counselor recommendation (Secondary School Report). Your counselor will complete the required information on line. • You will receive an email confirmation from www.parchment.com when your transcript has been sent. • If you need teacher letters of recommendation, you may either give the teachers stamped, addressed envelopes or mail the letters yourself.
The Common App • Once completed online or in print, copies of the Application for Undergraduate Admission can be sent to any number of participating colleges. The same is true of the School Report, Optional Report, Midyear Report, Final Report and Teacher Evaluation forms. • The Common App and Parchment • Purdue is using the Common App this year.
Central Profile It gives a history of class size, the type of community we live in, what our grading system looks like, how rank is calculated, our average SAT/ACT scores, how many AP/CC courses we offer, how many students last year attended a 4year/2year university etc. Current Senior Class 285
When to Apply • Be aware that some scholarship deadlines are early (Nov 1st). Check the college website to find the deadline. • Best to apply the first semester
Don’t forget to submit a housing application! • Housing requests • Dorm • Apartment • Greek • Other costs • Meal tickets • Laundry • Gas • Books & Supplies Look at the Cost of attendance for the colleges you are interested in
FYI • Colleges will either Admit, Deny or keep application Deferred. Some colleges such as Purdue require that you pick an area of study… they may not admit you to the area of study requested but may list other majors that will admit you. • College may ask for a 7th semester transcript so make sure to keep up with your grades.
Clearinghouse/NCAA/NAIA • Register with the clearinghouse to find out if you are academically eligible. • Go to http://eligibilitycenter.orgfor NCAA Division I or II sports • Click on Fall 2010 or after • Click on the phone icon to register • Go to http://www.playnaia.org for NAIA sports they will begin taking applications Sept.1 • See Mr. McWilliams with any questions.
Senior Calendar/ Scholarship Reports • Please fill out a cover sheet if you are applying for a scholarship. See Mrs. Stewart for a cover sheet • Turn in all scholarship applications directly to YOUR counselor. • Updated monthly • Posted on Central’s website
Scholarships and GrantsEarned • Academic Achievement • Outstanding extra-curricular performance and/or • Ability (i.e., music or sports or leadership scholarships)
Need Based Scholarships • These are scholarships based on financial need Loans Scholarships (21st Century ~need and merit) Grants Work-study programs
FAFSA • Free Application for Federal Student Aid • Application can be completed anytime after Jan1st (tax info needed) but must be received by U.S. Department of Education no later than March 10th . You must apply online. • Financial need is the difference between what you and your family can contribute (Estimated Family Contribution-EFC) and what it will cost to attend college. • EFC is based on your family’s income
Student Aid Report • After you complete the FAFSA, the results will be sent to the colleges listed on your application and your student will receive a Student Aid Report. • You should receive a financial aid award letter from the college with specific details of what type and how much assistance they are offering. • These letters need to be signed and returned by a certain deadline.
College Visits • College reps visit Central so watch the Daily bulletin/MyBigCampus for times and location of visits you are interested in. A list will also be posted on the guidance department window. • Permission slips are available from Mrs. Stewart. Make sure to have classroom teacher sign the form. • Take the time to make a campus visit!
Campus Visit • We encourage all students to make campus visits. If you are unable to visit the college you are interested in when Central is not in session you may need to schedule a visit during the school day. A college visit daywill be counted as a field trip day and will not count against your attendance, in any way. If you should choose to visit a college while Central is in session you will need to provide verification of your visit to the attendance office. The verification should include the date and time of the visit and be signed by a university official. You may schedule up to two college visits in any semester.

Selective Services: Although there has been no military draft in the United States since the 1970s, young men are required to register with the federal Selective Service when they turn 18, or within 30 days of that birthday. How do you register? Young men may register online at the Selective Services (www.sss.gov): web site or by mail, using a Selective Service postcard available at any post office. Have your Social Security number handy.
