  5. 4-Year Leadership Development Model CLASSTASK HOW 4th Class Prepare “Knob year” CIT 101 3rd Class Serve LDRS 201, Service Learning 2nd Class Lead Ethics Classes, Train SCCC 1st Class Command Senior Leadership Integration Seminar, Run SCCC

Sophomore Year • LDRS 201 Course in Leadership • Course required part of curriculum • Meets for 1 hour weekly for 13 weeks • Instructors trained and certified • Instruction lesson plan driven • LDRS 211 • Required second semester • Requires each cadet to participate in at least 10 hours of service learning experiences

  7. Junior Year • Ethics Enrichment Experience (Spring ‘13) • Required for all juniors, 8 sessions • 20 sections of 18-25 cadets • All instructors trained and certified • Certificate from Institute For Global Ethics • Course material based on book: How Good People Make Tough Choices: Resolving the Dilemmas of Ethical LivingBy Rushworth Kidder

  8. Senior Year • Senior Leadership Integration Seminar (AY 12-13) • Similar to a quality professional development seminar • One day off campus • 20-25 cadets in “career oriented” groups

CO-CURRICULAR PROGRAMS • Leadership Education Program • All Cadets • 1100 each Tuesday 12-13 times/semester • Led by Commandant’s Department and Company Leadership Development Teams • Principled Leadership Symposium • 2 Days Each Spring • Panels, Round tables, Papers • Keynote Speeches by Notable Leaders

Tutoring/Mentoring (EDUC) -Kaleidoscope & WINGS Afterschool Programs: 64 Volunteers/515 Hours -Serves Title 1 schools in Charleston County; Focuses on emotional, social, and academic growth -James Simons Elementary School: 77 Volunteers/234 Hours -A Title 1 School; weekly tutoring; Arts Night and Science Night held at The Citadel -Other Sites: Cannon Street YMCA, Military Magnet Academy, Burke Middle/High Schools, and Mitchell Elementary School 228 Total student volunteers 1,462 Total hours at Tutoring and Mentoring sites

  13. Housing/Food (Poverty) -Arland D. Williams Heroism Day: 135 Volunteers/1350 Hours -Day of service in memory of Arland D. Williams; 11 agencies served by 13 teams -Sea Island Habitat for Humanity: 109 Volunteers/981 Hours -Serves low-income families in need of housing -Other Sites: Charleston Habitat for Humanity ReStore, Crisis Ministries, Low Country Food Bank, The College of Charleston Martin Luther King Jr. Challenge, United Methodist Relief Project 371 Total student volunteers 3, 146 Total hours at Housing/Food sites

Health/Special Needs -Special Olympics Mid-Winter Games: 101 Volunteers/497 Hours -Sports competition for individuals with mental and physical special needs -Charleston Miracle League: 90 Volunteers/342 Hours -Community supported, non-profit baseball league; serves adults and children with mental and physical special needs -Other Sites: Charleston Veterans Affairs Hospital, Down Syndrome Association of the Low Country 211 Total student volunteers 1032 Total hours at Health and Special Needs sites
