  1. An introduction to theTravel Buddy SchemeSupporting People with Learning Disabilities in Wandsworth The Travel Buddy scheme employs buddies and also uses volunteers who support people to use public transport. It creates travel opportunities from people’s home, to leisure and work venues in Wandsworth. Travel Buddy is a service which provides support for people with Learning Disabilities to travel on public transport safely. The aims are to help those using the scheme to learn new skills for road safety, to improve confidence on public transport and build on supporting people to travel as independently as possible. The scheme works closely with the service user to match them with a suitable Travel Buddy. The Travel Buddy scheme offers ongoing travel training. It improves social skills enabling users of the service to develop their presence in the community and can break down barriers. If you know anyone who would be interested in using the Travel Buddy scheme or would be interested to volunteer, please call Natalie Bahrami on 0208 871 7779 or email nbahrami@wandsworth.gov.uk.
