Alison Dent Manager: Educational Analysis NEETs intervention study Lancaster University, Two Four Communications and Changing Media Becta's Research Conference 2008 - Exploring technology-enabled change in education 6 November 2008
Aim: Re-engage young people who are NEET within a particular local authority area through the use of an ICT based solution. Partners: Lancaster University, Two Four Communications, Changing Media Becta Local authority, National Youth Agency, Connexions
Considerations for intervention study: NEET group is not homogenous – intervention must suit circumstance ICT usage is established but not sophisticated Short-term engagement must lead to longer term change. ICT will support but not replace face-to-face contact
NEET sub-groups: Hierarchy of need? The ALTs and MULPs require greater intervention than NEERS and EERs ALTs MULPs NEERs EERs
A suggested intervention: EERs and ALTs EERs: Communicating information ALTs: Creative engagement and social networking
Stages: Phase 1: Project design and conceptualisation Phase 2: Secure partnerships Phase 3: Launch test pilot Phase 4: Run test pilot Phase 5: Evaluation
