  6. Base Beam w/o scatterer Some performance data for above collimated, matched beam from tracing 10^6 pions through TURTLE. Data shown is for muons at entrance to Spectrometer Solenoid. * 9.3 % corresponding to +/- 20Mev/c about mean of p0 = 215Mev/c Collimation this plane

  7. Addition of Scatterer • In order to avoid beam scraping, scatterer placed after all quadrupoles, at entrance to Spectrometer Solenoid. Q. How plan to provide the larger matched emittance’s? • Incoming beam cylindrically symmetric. can be generated, and the beam matching *. conditions can be met by adjusting input beam & changing diffuser x’/y’ 1. Focus Beam with x/y 2. & Matched after passing thru’ required scatterer ! MICE ACCEPTANCE * correction coils not used here.

  10. & magnet availability ! 4 x Q35s. Bore diam = 35.8cm. Lmax/Leff = 1.046 / 0.66m 7 x Q35 half quads  full quads! Also exist other magnets on RAL site (eg. LBs Leff ~ 0.3m but small ap.) Other magnets at other sites? Type 1 NIMROD Dipole (x2 from ex-HEP line)

  11. Summary • Present Pion Injection % compares well with RIKEN • A possible Muon Extraction system described using 3triplet sets. • 2 of above 3triplet sets are available. • Emittance tuning & beam matching scheme described using focussing and changeable scatterer.
