Program Overview: Purpose Induction provides Participating Teachers the opportunity to: • Share and reflect on educational experiences • Continue to develop instructional strategies • Network with teachers from other schools and districts • Follow the pathway to clear a credential • Participate in a program that focuses on supporting participating teachers so that they remain in the profession • Engage in FACT activities that build on professional experiences to continuously improve teaching and student learning
Program Overview: Network of Support • Participating Teacher (PT) – Teacher participating in Induction in their first years in the profession. • Induction Coach (IC)– Veteran teacher assigned to support new teacher through both years of the Induction program. • Site Administration (SA)– Administrator(s) support the PT and IC by facilitating the essential components of Induction, such as time for collaboration and classroom observations. • District Program Advisor (PA)– Liaison between PT, IC, SA and MCOE to ensure adherence to the Induction goals, standards, and state requirements. • MCOE TCP/Induction Staff– County staff who provide and coordinate services and support to guide PTs in meeting CA credential requirements for clearing their credentials
Program Overview: Induction Activities Meetings between PT and IC: Regular meetings centered on supporting the PT throughout his or her first years of teaching Seminars: Topics include Induction Program specifics, such as FACT & ePortfolio requirements Professional Development: Support professional growth aligned to the district’s goals and priorities, as well as PTs’ self-identified areas of improvement
Program Overview: Expectations for PD and Meetings • Required attendance at a minimum of 3 seminars • Induction Coaches must attend seminars with their Participating Teachers • Sign into verify attendance • Seminars and meetings will start and end on time • Prime opportunity for networking and collaboration with colleagues; come ready to participate and engage in discussions

FAQs Why am I required to participate in the Induction Program? The state designed Induction to accomplish several objectives: • Induct new teachers into our profession to promote teacher retention, thus promoting student achievement • Provide a means for new teachers to reflect on their teaching practice and collaborate with others to enhance their teaching practice • Demonstrate that the elements of the standards are being applied in new teachers classroom before being issued a professional credential
FAQs My pre-service program prepared me well for the demands of the classroom. Why do I need to repeat what I’ve already learned? • Preservice preparationprovides the foundation and theoretical framework for effective teaching. • Induction provides the opportunity to deepen understanding and apply and demonstrate it in everyday practice.
FAQs What if I don’t like my Induction Coach? • Our Induction Coaches are chosen for both their effectiveness as classroom teachers and their skill and ability working with adult learners. If your combined best professional efforts cannot resolve issues, please contact your Program Advisor, and he or she will be willing to work with you to find another Induction Coach.
University Units • Application link found on the MCOE-TCP/Induction website • Up to 8 units/year • Apply for the units directly through the university at the end of the year

FACT is… • focused on self-identified areas of growth • allows participating teachers to identify areas of strength and areas of study or focus, directly related to his/her classroom • centered on data and research • engages the induction coach as a guide and agent for growth
FACT… is an ongoing learning process that follows the plan, teach, reflect and apply cycle.
