Sandy Springs Fire RescueFleet Replacement Request March 5, 2013
Reason for Replacing the Fleet • Aging Fleet - Approaching 7years of service • High Mileage - All but 2 are over 83,000 miles • Annual maintenance costs continue to rise • Down-time during repairs is increasing
Current Fleet / Mileage 4- Quints / 2-Engines • Quint-1 83,200 miles • Quint-2 84,100 miles • Quint-3 65,000 miles • Quint-4 73,400 miles • Engine-1 87,100 miles • Engine-2 88,300 miles
Criteria for Replacing Fleet • Four criteria used to determine replacement • Age from 7 to 10 years of useful life • Maintenance history • 80,000+ miles for fire equipment • Down-time of fleet
Lengthened Replacement Cycles • The consequence of lengthened replacement cycles brings an increase in unexpected and costly repairs • After 7 years repairs become more frequent • Trade-in values decrease around $300K/Year • Cost of new vehicles increases annually
Why Replace the Fleet at 7 Years • Trading-in the fleet at the 7 year mark maximizes buy-back funds • Purchasing multiple apparatus at one time adds buying power and cost reductions • New warranties mean a reduction in maintenance costs • New fleet reduces down-time thus better service to the community
Solution to Current Fleet • Work with city leaders on new truck purchase • Trade-in current fleet to offset cost-payments • Design & Engineer fleet specific to COSS-SSFR • Work with a Vendor who will support needs
