Other Minority Movements • Other minorities were inspired by African Americans and their fight for equality • Women had been fighting for their rights since the early 1900s and were successful with achieving voting rights with the 19th amendment • Women still not on an equal playing field with men in terms of employment, education, and political representation
Other Minority Movements • Women take a page from the Civil Rights Movement by creating their own group • N.O.W.: National Organization for Women (1966) • This group pushed for equal pay in the workplace, opportunities for advancement, and equal representation in politics

Other Minority Movements • Hispanic-Americans joined in the fight for equality as well • Hispanic-Americans were looked down upon and were denied equality in employment and education. • Most Latinos worked as migrants or as underpaid farm workers
Other Minority Movements • Cesar Chavezemerges as a civil rights leader for Hispanic-Americans • He organizes a group to fight for Hispanic-American rights known as the: • U.F.W.: United Farm Workers (1962)

Other Minority Movements • Most Hispanic-Americans picked grape and lettuce, were underpaid, and worked in far worse conditions than white farmworkers • The U.F.W. helped Hispanic-American farmworkers achieve higher wages and better working conditions

Other Minority Movements • These conditions will lead them to create their own group • A.I.M.: American Indian Movement (1969) • This group helped to achieve equal employment opportunities and other rights now granted to all minorities because of the Civil Rights Movement
