  2. Background Information • born on July 24 1897 in Atchison, Kansas • Amy(her mom) Edwin(her dad) Muriel(her sister) and Alfred Otis(her grandfather) • went to a private school and in later years she became a nurse in Toronto • officially declared dead on January 5, 1939

  3. Accomplishments • pre-med at Columbia University in the fall of 1919 • took the challenge of becoming the first solo transatlantic flight in 1932 • developed clothes for the active women • encouraged/promoted female aviators

  4. Qualities • felt that any women interested in flying should try it because it was really beneficial to her because maybe it could do the same thing for her students • wanted to take care of others and while she was being a nurse in Toronto She really understood the peoples pain from the experience • really dedicated. She loved flying and she knew if she worked hard enough she could do it

  5. Interesting facts • surprised that Amelia was not in love with the sight of an airplane because she really wouldn’t even know till later that that would be her occupation • got to fly the first lady, Eleanor Roosevelt
