Brief Summary of Unit (Including curricular context and goals): This Nutrition unit is designed to have 5th graders understand how to choose a proper diet. The goal is to educate pre- adolescents to think critically, make sound decisions, and solve problems relating to dietary choices throughout their life.
What audio/visual/technology are needed for this unit? • Computer lab or COWs for internet research, playing games, and creating broadcast 2. Code for unblocking sites 3. Powerpoint, Word, Kidinspiration, Excel 4. Use of TV studio for broadcast (lights, cameras, video/audio mixing software, sound board) 5. Art materials and poster printer for background of broadcast and projects 6. Classroom Sound-Field System 7. Smartboard with Senteo interactive response system for video, internet, rubric, response & survey

Summary description of Performance TaskStudents will perform a morning broadcast for the school consisting of information on the food pyramid, tips for healthy eating, warnings about unhealthy foods, a health segment on effects of unhealthy eating, a cooking segment showing recipe for healthy snack, a commercial for breakfast, an explanation of the menu for the 5th grade overnight trip and the work that went into planning the menu. There will be music Students may use pre-recorded segments or video clips. The broadcast will give accurate information and sources of research used.
Summary of Other Evidence *These tasks lend themselves to differentation. Students may use different media such as art, music. Some materials available in Spanish. Also quiz and written tasks can be modified for Inclusion.
