[question: why did they wait til evening?] • Luke 4:31- And He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and He was teaching them on the Sabbath; [answer: because it was the Sabbath!] • Matthew 14:1-2 - At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the news about Jesus, 2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he has risen from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.” [question: Why would Herod make this commentary about Jesus?] • Luke 8:3 – Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household. • Acts 13:1 – Manaen(who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) [answer: because followers of Jesus were close to him in his household]

Unintentional Eyewitness Support - 187 • Matthew 26:71 - Then he went out to the gateway, where another servant girl saw him and said to the people there, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth.” [question: why did the servant girl notice Peter?] • John 18:15-16 - Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest’s courtyard, 16 but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the servant girl on duty there and brought Peter in. [answer: John had to talk to her to let Peter into the courtyard.] • Mark 15:43 - Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. [question: Why was this a bold move?] • John 19:38 - Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders. With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away. [answer: because followers of Jesus were close to him in his household]
