GIST 24 MeetingGERB Hardware Status 14th December 2005 Eric Sawyer
GERB 1 on MSG 2 • Final activities in Kourou • Application of conductive paint to the solar reflector tiles • Conductivity requirement was not met, discovered on GERB-4
GERB-3 • In storage at RAL • Some updates to the IEU to be completed
GERB-4 Instrument Optical Unit (IOU) • Fold Mirror and FM1 Detector integrated and aligned to Telescope Assembly • Telescope boresight aligned to De-scan Mechanism • Telescope boresight pointing relative to the alignment prism measured • Telescope Cover Assembly & DSM Cover Assembly integrated • Calmon assembly complete • Front Panel assembled • Heaters and temperatures sensors integrated and harness routed to external connectors • MLI blankets fabricated • QFM and DSM operated with IEU prior to integration into IOU • IOU functional test with GERB-4 IEU expected this week.
GERB-4 Instrument Electronic Unit (IEU) & Inter-Unit Harness (IUH) • Modifications to the Timing, Inductosyn and Vector Control 1 Boards now complete (to rectify the problem of variable timing between SOE and SOL pulses). • All PCBs have been tested at board level • All PCBs conformally coated and baked-out • IEU completely assembled and checked at unit level • IEU ready to start functional checks with the IOU • IUH completed and baked out
GERB-4 Plans for next few weeks • Complete functional testing of IEU and IOU • Characterisation of Scan Mirror positions to viewing aperture, Black Body aperture, etc. • Manufacture tapered shims • Vibrate IEU • Vibrate IOU • Thermal vacuum test of complete instrument • Electrical interface checks • Delivery to Alcatel Space expected 17th January 2006.
