  2. Word Structure Line 1 Line 2 Read the words chorally. What do you notice about these words? Line 1 – identify the singular form of each word. What is the rule for making nouns that end in y preceded by a consonant plural? What is the rule for making nouns that end with sh or ch plural? What is the rule for making a noun plural when it ends in a y and is preceded by a vowel. They are regular plural nouns. shadow, flash, branch Change the y to i and add –es. Add – es. Add -s

  3. Word Structure Line 3 Line 4 The words on these lines are irregular plurals. What is the singular form for each of these words? person, child, foot, goose, mouse, cactus

  4. Word Structure Line 1 Line 2 Line 2 Line 3 Line 2 Line 4 Give the singular form of a noun from any word line. the student can pick a volunteer to use the singular form of the word in a sentence. Volunteer will use the plural form in a sentence. Example: Strawberry My brother could eat only one strawberry. I once ate ten strawberries.

  6. Reading This week, bring to class your favorite books or stories. Each day, we’ll have a volunteer read a portion of their story. You might want to practice reading your stories aloud to yourself before you read them to the class.

  7. Discussion & Handing Off • Discuss the story that was read. You might start the discussion by asking why the student chose this story to share. • What was your favorite character or part? • You are not limited to talking about only this book or story. This book or story might remind you of another book you have read, and you may want to compare it to today’s story.

  8. Choose something you want to write about from the list that was generated yesterday. Use a graphic organizer such as a web

  9. Writing • What do you remember about drafting? • Each section of the graphic organizer could be a paragraph. • Begin your drafts from your graphic organizer.

  10. Workshop • Do not interrupt the teacher • Talk quietly • Always be working • Put away materials when you are done.

Workshop • Possible Workshop activities include. • choose a book to read from the Reading Area. • You may continue to work on your writing drafts.. • Work on Benchmark Assessments. • You may work in pairs and find examples of regular and irregular plural nouns. Create a chart with the following headings: Regular nouns – no spelling change Regular nouns – with spelling change Irregular nouns Find a minimum of ten words for each category. Write sentences for five plural nouns from each category.
