Nasal Cavity and Oral Cavity • Air enters the nasal cavity through the nostrils • Air is filtered with the help of tiny hair – cilia • Special cells moistens and warms the air
Pharynx • Acts like a common passageway of food and the air. • Food beings swallowed is prevented from entering the air tube by a thin structure, called epiglottis .
Larynx • Voice box - production of voice
Trachea [TRAY-kee-uh] • Windpipe • Lined with a mucus membrane and hair like projections called cilia . • The cilia move the mucus upward to clear the respiratory tract.
Bronchi/us [BRAHN-ky] • Two branched tube from trachea • Delivers air to the Lungs
Bronchioles • Branches of bronchus • Delivers air to the Lungs
Bronchioles • Branches of bronchioles • Delivers air to the Lungs
Lungs • Main organs of the respiratory system. • Oxygen is taken into the body and carbon dioxide is breathed out. • The RBC are responsible for picking up the oxygen it to all the body cells that need it and remove carbon dioxide.
Diaphragm • Contraction of muscle results to breathing • Inspiration = Inhale • Expiration = Exhale
