€2 and €1 coins feature the federal eagle, a traditional symbol of German sovereignty.
50, 20, and 10 cent coins feature the Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor), which symbolizes the division and subsequent unification of Germany
5, 2, and 1 cent coins feature an oak twig, reminiscent of the design on the old German pfennig (penny) coins
