Aims of Event • To meet tutors and trainees • To provide basic information about the course • To provide opportunities for you to get answers to questions • To revisit the audit of your subject knowledge and plan activities for August.
The Leeds Trinity PGCE • Based on the Professional Standards as laid down by the TDA and the DCSF: • Professional Attributes • Professional Knowledge and Understanding • Professional Skills • Leads to QTS and PGCE
Course Structure • Stage I: Underpinning Knowledge and Understanding (12 weeks in Leeds Trinity) • Stage II: Development of Competence through performance (12 weeks in the Training School) • Stage III: Verification of competence in a complementary school (12 weeks in the Verification School)
Subject Studies • Covers: • subject and curriculum knowledge • planning, • assessment • teaching • Workshop sessions • Agenda setting, Directed Tasks, Review and Training • Delivered by College Subject Tutors and others
Professional Studies • Covers: • professional duties, professionalism, • Professional frameworks (schools, curriculum etc.) • behaviour management, pastoral duties • individual needs of pupils • Lectures and seminars with all other PGCE trainees • Delivered by Professional Studies tutors and others
Critical Thinking • Supports the development of trainees’ criticality with regards to: • Policy and curriculum • Classroom Research • Assessment • Teaching and Learning • Their own practice • Lead Lectures, supported by online materials, followed by discussions in Subject Studies • Delivered by college tutors • Supports trainees with their Masters level work
Stage II • Starts Monday 28 November 2011 • Timetable initially 30%, then averaging 50-60% • Opportunity to: • Teach KS3 and KS4 and KS5 • Teach across the ability range • Teach your own subject (>80%) • Work within a team, and with teaching assistants • Be a pastoral tutor; contribute to Citizenship, PSHE • Gain knowledge of KS2/3 and KS4/5 liaison/transfer • 3 hours training per week
Stage III • Starts Monday 22 March 2012 • Timetable initially 30%, then averaging 50-60% • Opportunities as Stage II, but increased personalisation of training to meet needs • 2 weeks Enhancement Opportunity at the end of the placement
Placements and Serial Visits • Placements in Partnership Schools only • Informed by: • your circumstances • Your needs • Training Opportunities at schools • Placements organised by Subject Studies Tutor and Schools Partnership Manager in consultation with trainees • Draft placements by Mon 12 Sep • Serial Visits start Wed 28 Sep
