Student EDITION: NIS 2011 PROPOSAL Proposal Summary • Problem statement: • HP Pavilion dm4 student-focused specialty platform requires the best UX • NIS 2011 60-day trial experience is not optimal • North America has already used up its 5% allotment of 1-year subscriptions • Win-win-win solution is required to satisfy HP, Symantec, and retailer • Solution: • Preload NIS 2011 60-day trial (instead of preinstall) • User would need to click on NIS 2011 link to install application • 2 incremental NIS 2011 touch points added to image build • Windows Taskbar “Nirvana” app launcher & Start Menu MFU list • Solution would NOT count toward HP’s existing 5% cap • Retailer would upsell customer to NIS subscription at POS (and receive bounty) • HP and retailer would market NIS 2011 as a key experience on the dm4

Student EDITION: NIS 2011 PROPOSAL Incremental NIS 2011 touch point #1: Windows Taskbar • “Nirvana” is HP’s upcoming app launcher (unique to dm4 in 2c11) • How Nirvana works: user mouses over one of the 2 default Nirvana Taskbar icons, which causes the Windows 7 preview window to pop up. User then clicks on the appropriate icon in the open window to launch a specific application. • User can edit content in Nirvana “containers” • Norton Internet Security 2011 • Skype • Evernote • MS Math 4.0 Microsoft IE9 Windows Explorer Windows MP HP “Nirvana” Windows Live “Nirvana” Battery NIS 2011 1:15 PM
