  1. What is the value of “e” ? 2. You are depositing $3000 earning 5% interest for 2 years. Calculate the following: Compounded annually Compounded monthly Continuously compounded What are the 3 ways to find an inverse of a function? (ex. f(x)=2x+3 ) e 4.4 Warm Up ~2.71828 $3307.50 1. Switch x and y in the function and solve for y. $3314.82 2. Reflect over y=x. 3. Switch x and y ordered pairs. $3315.51

  2. 4.4 Evaluate Logarithms and Graph Logarithmic Functions p. 145

  3. Evaluating Log Expressions • We know 22 = 4 and 23 = 8 • But for what value of x does 2x = 6? • HUMMMMMMMMMM…… • Because 22 < 6 < 23 you would expect the answer to be between 2 & 3.

  4. Definition of Logarithm to base “a” • Let a & x be positive numbers & a ≠ 1. • The logarithm of x with base a is denoted by logaxand is defined: Ex: 52 = 25 can be written _________. • This expression is read “log base 5 of 25 = 2” Ex: Log3 81 = 4 can be written _________. • This expression is read “3 to the 4th power = 81” I’m in the BASE-ment, get it? Heh heh

  5. The definition tells you that the equations: logax = y and ay = x are EQUIVALENT. • Rewriting forms: • To evaluate log3 9 = x ask yourself… • “Self… 3 to what power is 9?” • 32 = 9 so…… log39 = 2

  6. log216 = 4 log1010 = 1 log31 = 0 log10 .1 = -1 So…… 2x = 6 24 = 16 101 = 10 30 = 1 10-1 = .1 log2 6 ≈ 2.585 Log formExp. form

  7. Evaluate without a calculator 4 3 4 - 5

  8. Assignment Pg. 147 1 - 15 all Pg. 148 1 – 12 all
