YOUR CHALLENGE We all want to go further and faster, but safely, for less money and with less impact on the environment. We all want to receive the products we buy faster, and we want to buy things from all over the world! But these products have to get to us. Using all the technologies that you have and will have access to in the future, your challenge is to come up with a design, concept or incentive for an integrated, fast and efficient European transport network which stretches from Russia and reaches right across Europe. Your solution should address both personal and commercial modes of transport and could include land, sea and air transport. Consideration must be taken of varying climates, physical geography, congestion points and any refuelling infrastructure that will be required.
Keep in mind The world’s population will rise by more than 25% from 2010 to 2040 reaching nearly 9 billion people. Global energy demand will be about 35% higher in 2040 compared to 2010 Energy use in OECD countries (North American & Europe) will remain flat, while energy demand in Non-OECD countries will grow by 65% By 2040, electricity generation will account for more than half of global energy demand Transportation demand will rise about 40%, driven by expanding commercial activity. However, global energy used for personal vehicles will gradually peak and then begin to fall, as significant fuel economy gains offset growth in the worldwide fleet. Efficiency will continue to play a key role in solving our energy challenges
