  2. About Me… • Originally from Michigan • Michigan State University, B.A., 1997 • Walden University, M.S., 2007 • Teaching for 20 years • Soleado for 18 years • Brady, my 4 year old black lab, serves as our V-4 mascot

Our Daily Schedule 8:30 Daily Language Review/Mountain Language 9:00 Big Room: Mon., Wed., Fri. 9:20 Language Arts 10:30 Recess 10:50 Math 12:00 Lunch 12:45 Silent Reading 1:00 Fix and Finish 1:15 Science 2:00 Social Studies 2:45 Clean Up/Copy Homework 3:00 Dismissal Mondays: Music 12:45-1:30 Dismissal 1:30 Tuesdays: PE 2:10-3 Wednesdays: Mr. Perkins 1:20-2pm Thursdays: Library at 10-10:30am, PE 11:10-12pm Fridays: Computers 11am, Art 2:00-2:45

  5. Third Grade Report Card • New standards to reflect Common Core • New grades, no longer “5,4,3,2,1” • Achievement Levels: • 4: Consistent understanding • 3: Partial understanding • 2: Minimal understanding • Effort: • C: Consistently • S: Some of the time • AC: Area of Concern

Homework Expectations • About 30 minutes a night • Reading 20 min. per night also • Parents SHOULDbe going over work with child • Not always graded, but recorded for credit • Unfinished class work may become homework • Fix and Finish Fridays! (starts next week) • Late work is accepted, 1 day for each day out • Independent Study required for 5+ days • Cubbies will have important info each day • Digital Homework assignments will become the norm • Agendas signed weekly • Students Need agendas DAILY—will have all usernames and passwords in it! Enboard—new this year!

Language Arts • Ready Reading—done in class • Chapter Books read in class: • Charlotte’s Web, Mr. Poppers Penguins, Peter Pan • Spelling • SpellingCity.com • Integrates writing, vocabulary and spelling • Often weekly homework • Accelerated Reading Program (AR LEVEL) • Kids will know their reading “level” and find books accordingly.

  8. Writing • Cursive-paper and pencil as well as on iPads • Typing.com, typing practice--homework • Need computer access at home and school (or work during silent reading) • Mr. Perkins, Writing Teacher • Integrating with Technology • New Step Up to Writing

  9. Math • Math in Focus—third year of this program • Every Day Counts-Calendar Math • Tests will be announced 2-3 days ahead of time • Reflex Math online—app and website. Times tables • IXL.com–app and website. All standards • KhanAcademy.org—app and website. Videos, activities, badges, games. • TenMarks.com—app and website-practice SBAC questions • Think Central—website only. Math in Focus website

  14. A word about Birthdays… • No food items should be brought in • A classroom gift, such as a game or a book is a GREAT way to celebrate 

  15. Classroom Wish list • -Heavy duty pencil sharpener (to keep in our classroom) • -a mini fridge (for our big room) • -clorox wipes (for keeping us clean!) • -painters tape (for hanging signs easier) • -headphones (to use with computers) • -stylus pens (to use with ipads)

Parent Volunteers • We need your TB test on file! • Classroom Helpers in Big Room—alternating schedule if enough sign up!  • Tues, Wed., Thurs, Fridays • 9:00-10:30am • Library-Our time is Thursday 10:00-10:30 • Computers—Fridays 11:00-12:00 • Book Orders—Scholastic Book orders, once a month from home • Prize Box Donations, please sign up! • Room Mom(s)--any announcements?

  17. A note from the Office • Child must go to the office if he/she is late • Please drop off forgotten lunch in the office • Extra lunches are available • Parent invoiced • “No cash” system • Absences need to be called into ext. 299 • If not, an automated message will call your home
