LRPT • Replaces the Texas Long-Range Plan for Technology, 1996-2010 • New plan developed over a two year period by the Educational Technology Advisory Committee (ETAC), appointed by the Commissioner of Education • Plan includes funding requests to the Texas Legislature
LRPT • Communication Timeline • November: TEA submitted the 110-page plan to the State Board of Education • December: Plan was submitted to Texas Legislature • January: Plan was submitted to the U.S. Department of Education and distributed to schools

NISD/Elert 10-Year Tech Plan • NISD retained Elert & Associates in July 2001 to assist the District in the review of its technology resources and uses, and to help plan for future uses of technology • In March 2002, Elert & Associates published the 179-page Northside ISD Technology Master Plan 2002-2012: Implementing Excellence • First status report provided to the Board in July 2004 • February 2007 status report is in your packet
Internet Filtering • Internet Safety and Filtering addressed in CQ Local, CQ Legal, and TEC-01(see packet) • Additional Internet Safety and Filtering information is posted on the NISD website (see packet) • Approximately 20 sites per month are submitted to the Internet Safety Committee for review and action • Many safe alternatives are provided for image searches (see packet)
Update on Data Warehouse, Business/HR Management System, Document Management System Initiatives
Data Warehouse Initiative • Data Warehouse: What Is It? (see packet) • Data Management Services Coordinator hired in January • NISD Data Center upgrade project completed – will house the data warehouse • Storage Area Network (SAN) pilot complete – provides necessary storage requirements to support the data warehouse • NISD's acquisition of a "second site" to provide for redundancy of critical systems' data and information is nearing completion of construction phase • Formed cross-departmental team and provided initiative kick-off presentation to district personnel on October 25 • Published the Data Warehouse Initiative website, a resource for team members • Provided 6 hours of training for team members from The Data Warehousing Institute on November 17 • Developing “bank” of requirements from Request for Proposals used by other school districts • Continuing research and discovery phase
Business/HR Management System • Will provide staff the ability to easily access and manage both summary and detailed fiscal and employee information (current system is iTCCS provided by Region 20) • Formed cross-departmental team in September; meeting every other week (eight times so far) • Published the Business/HR Information Management System Initiative website, a resource for team members • Continuing research and discovery phase • Prepared and distributed online survey of Texas and large U.S. school districts to gather feedback • Team has attended two vendor presentations at NLC • Team plans to complete the acquisition phase in spring 2007
Document Management System • Will provide staff with ability to securely track and store, retrieve, manage and electronic documents, images, and related work flow • Formed cross-departmental team in September; meeting every other week (eight times so far) • Continuing research and discovery phase • Several team members attended ARMA International conference (association for records and information management professionals) in October • Team has attended two vendor presentations at NLC • Team plans to complete the acquisition phase in spring 2007
