Dior • Controversy • In a time of poverty Christian Dior pushed luxury by introducing the ”New Look” • In this time, introducing this type of fashion seemed to be a provocation • Instant Success • The success of the “New Look” reached America the day after it was debuted • One year after debuting the “New Look” Christian Dior opens his first store in New York • Jealousy • Christian Dior’s success enrages designer Coco Chanel; she flees to Switzerland for safety and returns 2 years later • Jealous of the “New Look” several women are attacked in the streets, and their outfits were torn off of their bodies.
