  4. Details About Our Program • SMC has three levels of ESL instruction • Beginning • Intermediate • Advanced

  5. Level of Instruction4-5 courses offered at each level**During the summer we do not offer Integrated Skills

  6. Integrated Skills This course includes listening, speaking, reading and writing basic English The class meets 6hrs per week Ex. M & W or T &Th Available in all levels ESL 902 – Beginning Integrated Skills ESL 903 – Low Intermediate Integrated Skills ESL 904 – High Intermediate Integrated Skills ESL 905 – Low Advanced Integrated Skills ESL 906 – High Advanced Integrated Skills

  7. Listening, Speaking and Pronunciation This course will focus on improvement of the student’s pronunciation and comprehension of English Class meets 3hrs per week Available in all levels ESL 911 - Beginning ESL 913 – Intermediate ESL915 – Advanced

  8. Reading and Writing This course will focus on improving students’ English vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing skills. This class meets 3hrs per week Available in all levels ESL 961 – Beginning ESL 963 - Intermediate ESL 965 – Advanced

  9. Idioms, Prepositions, and Vocabulary This course will focus on learning basic English and begin engaging in simple dialogs and conversations that are applicable to a variety of real life situations. This class meets 3hrs per week Available in all levels ESL 971 - Beginning ESL 973 – Intermediate ESL 975 – Advanced

  10. Citizenship Class: ESL 902 • Prepare for the New Citizenship exam, interview and receive help with the N-400 application • Continuous open enrollment • Multi-lingual teacher • MW 6:30-8:30pm

  11. How to Register for Classes The class is open – register for classes in Bundy Rm 112 The class is closed/full – Go to instructor during the second week of class (or later) to see if there is space

  12. Class Schedule The schedule is flexible for students Courses are available in the morning, afternoon and Saturday. Check the current schedule for course offerings and times

  13. Changing Classes You can register anytime during the semester (Open Entry/Open Exit). As long as the class is open If feel your class is not the correct level, check with your instructor or counselor about which level may be more appropriate for you Go to Bundy Campus Room 112 to make any changes

  14. Fees & Financial Aid SMC noncredit classes are FREE!!! You may be asked to pay for textbooks, materials, and supplies that you will need to succeed in your class.($40-$50) There is no financial aid available for noncredit courses books or supplies

  15. Grades & Transfer Credit You will not receive a grade for noncredit courses you attend Noncredit courses do not transfer to another school or program, but they help prepare you to take credit college courses

  16. Attendance Attendance is important for successful learning and will be taken in each class If you miss 2 consecutive classes you will be dropped The more time and energy you put into your class, the faster you will learn English

  17. Tutoring • Walk-in tutoring is available : • Fall2018- Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12:30-1:30pm Bundy 440 Tutoring can help you with: • Pronunciation • Speaking • Listening • Reading • Writing • Idioms/Prepositions • Vocabulary • Integrated Skills

  21. Bundy Campus On-Site Services Computer Lab – Room 116 ($.10 cents per copy) Free Shuttle to Main Campus Pick-up is on the south side of the Bundy Building(for SMC students and staff)

  26. Food and Drinks Are Permitted… In the Food Court area on 1st floor In each study area on each floor Outside the building Only water in closed containers is permitted in the hallways and classrooms No food or drinks are allowed in the Computer Lab at any time No Smoking

  27. FREE Parking Parking is FREE • Avoid getting a parking ticket!! • Head in parking only • You can get a parking decal in the kiosk
