INSTITUTE OF APPLIED & COMPUTATIONAL MATHEMATICSFOUNDATION OF RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGYCRETE-HELLAS CONTRIBUTION OF IACM/FORTH IN PHASE C OF MEASURE 3.3 - Discussion of results Al. Pantazis (pantazis_al@yahoo.gr) N. A. Kampanis (kampanis@iacm.forth.gr), Th. V. Karambas (karambas@marine.aegean.gr),
The scope of this project primarily is to observe and reveal the erosion phenomena of the east area of Rethimnon port and find solutions to the problems. • Combinations of different solutions including beach nourishment and submerged breakwaters have been tested for their applicability and efficiency. Table 1: Recommended sizes of breakwaters
Selected solution 1 Coastline evolution trend with the beach nourishment and 4 breakwaters
Selected solution 2 Coastline evolution trend with the beach nourishment and 3 breakwaters
Selected solution 3 Coastline evolution trend with the beach nourishment and 2 breakwaters
Better considered solution is the 1st where a better erosion trend control is been observed in the majority of the coastline in comparison with the results of the other solutions tested. • The sand for the beach nourishment will be taken from the west accumulation points outside of the port and put in the area of erosion. • Chemical analysis do not appear any dangerous components in the sand to be dredged.
