  2. Kennedy Wins Election because of…TV? • Radio Listeners thought that Nixon won the debate • TV viewers thought JFK won the debate • Kennedy had a nice tan from California, looked well rested • Nixon had just gotten out of the hospital, looked very ill, pale, and lost a lot of weight

  3. Cuba • Fidel Castro: Dictator of Cuba • Came to power in 1959 • Spoke out against America • Became friendly with the Soviet Union • Promised to restore Cuban people’s freedom • He did the opposite • Eisenhower responded by cutting all ties with Cuba

  4. The Bay of Pigs Invasion • An absolute disaster • What we did: • Trained Cuban exiles to fight to try and overthrow Castro • Failed air strike • Cuban exiles land invasion failed due to Castro knowing it was coming • An article in the NY Times predicted the attack a week before it happened

  5. The Berlin Wall • 1961: In only 6 months, over 200,000 East Germans Escaped • August 13, 1961: Construction of the wall started • Heavily Guarded • It separated: • Families • Neighborhoods • Streets • Cemeteries

  6. Kennedy Assassination • Lee Harvey Oswald • Shot on Elm Street • The Warren Commission • 10 month Investigation • Oswald “Acted Alone” • LBJ Sworn in as President of the United States

  7. Who “really” killed JFK???? • More than one shooter? • 75% of Americans still believe in some kind of JFK assassination conspiracy or cover up • LBJ, Mafia, Castro, CIA…the list goes on
