Mark 13:7-10 And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the earth. Isaiah 5:8
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows his handywork Psalms 19:1
Mark 1:32-35 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils. And all the city was gathered together at the door. And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

Elijah’s wilderness experience 1 Announcement is a declaration of drought and war 2 The words spoken by Elijah are God’s words 3 He leaves a place where he is obvious to a place where he cannot be seen. 4 Miraculous provision is promised 5 Elijah, contrary to rational thinking, is obedient. 6 Needs are provided daily 7 The seeming disaster and discomfort is what God said would occur 1 Kings 17:1-7
Lessons to learn • God who gives, can also take away • The dried up brook can be a result of our own prayers • We must be as willing to be hidden as out in front • We cannot give unless we have previously taken in • There is value in that hidden time as God shapes us • God’s direction always includes adequate provision • Trust God one day at a time

Acts 13:45-47 For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that you should be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
Summary • A drying brook can be a sign of God’s pleasure • Elijah had done nothing to earn God’s discipline • The wilderness experience was not a punishment, but protection from the evil King • Always be content, but always have your eyes open for what God wants you to do next • Remember how tenderly God dealt with Elijah • Listen, hear and obey

The ‘wilderness experiences’ Abraham, Moses, Joshua, David, Elijah, Paul and Jesus himself, are some of the most inspiring and encouraging stories of the Bible Luke 4:1-21 God’s loving kindness never fails Psalm 100:5
Let everyone be sure that he is doing his very best, for then he will have the personal satisfaction of work well done, and won’t need to compare himself with someone else. Galatians 6:4 (Living Word) But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. Galatians 6:4
Stand steady, and don’t be afraid of suffering for the Lord. Bring others to Christ. Leave nothing undone that you ought to do. • 2 Timothy 4:5 (Living Word) But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 2 Timothy 4:5
Colossians 3:1-4 If you then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For you are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory
