  6. Ladder of Inference Chris Argyris Actions I take action based on my belief. Beliefs I adopt a belief. I draw conclusions. Conclusions I make assumptions based on meaning I add. Assumptions I select data from what I observe. Selected data As a video recorder might capture it. Observable data

  7. Reflect On: • What is the observable data (what would a video camera capture)? • What is the select data I chose to focus on? • What assumption(s) am I making? • What conclusion did I come to? • What is my adjusted belief? • What action did I take?

  8. Pair and Share: • Briefly share the situation you chose. • What assumptions did I make? • What were the pitfalls of making those assumptions? • Switch.

  9. Debrief • Are there pitfalls when making assumptions? • If so, what are they?
