What is Alliteration? Here is a hint!! Betty Botter by Mother Goose Betty Botter bought some butter, but, she said, the butter’s bitter; if I put it in my batter it will make my batter bitter, but a bit of better butter will make my batter better. So she bought a bit of butter better than her bitter butter, and she put it in her batter and the batter was not bitter. So ’twas better Betty Botter bought a bit of better butter.
Any ideas? What sound do you hear repeating? Betty Botter bought some butter, but, she said, the butter’s bitter; if I put it in my batter it will make my batter bitter, but a bit of better butter will make my batter better. So she bought a bit of butter better than her bitter butter, and she put it in her batter and the batter was not bitter. So ’twas better Betty Botter bought a bit of better butter.
So what is it?!? Alliteration is when the beginning consonant sounds are repeated throughout a poem Let’s try this out!!
First, pick a letter, (except a, e, i, o, u) Then think of as many words as you can that start with that letter. You need nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Start making your sentences!
Here’s an example… Zzzzz I see zebras from Zimbabwe zipping all around the zoo. I see Zeus up in the zodiac, a zillion zithers too. There are zephyrs blowing zeppelins that are zooming near and far. There are zealots counting zeroes in a zone near Zanzibar. There are Zulus wearing zoot suits eating zwieback and zucchini plus a zombie with a zipper on his zinnia bikini. Yes, I always have the zaniest most zonked-out dreams like these, because every time I go to sleep I try to catch some Z’s. – Kenn Nesbitt
