Project Goals • Strengthen Oregon’s adult immunization infrastructure to increase access to adult vaccines • Partner with: • Pharmacies • Non-healthcare employers • Healthcare institutions • Community Health Centers • Long Term Care Facilities
Adult Immunization Special Project Sponsors • Sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Center for Immunizations and Respiratory Diseases • Administered through states and local health departments (LHDs) • Oregon: 32 out of 36 counties participating
Lane County Project Objectives: • Work with Pharmacies (9) • Initiate or increase Influenza and/or Tdap adult immunization by 10% of more • Assist with ALERT IIS training as needed • Work with Non-Healthcare Employers (10) • Improve relationships with large businesses • They will offer at least one employee flu and/or Tdap vaccination program
Lane County Project Objectives: • Work with Community Health Centers(9) • Expand adult flu and/or Tdap immunization services • Work with Healthcare Institutions • Improve healthcare worker flu vaccination • Increase coverage rate by 10% • Address hospitals first

Healthcare PersonnelNational Goals: • CDC, ACIP, and HICPAC recommend that ALL health care workers be vaccinated annually for influenza • Healthy People 2010 Goal: 60% • Healthy People 2015 Goal: 70% • Healthy People 2020 Goal: 90% • Higher flu vaccine rates among staff can reduce flu related illness and deaths!
Out of 12 LTCFs in Lane Countyincluded in the data: • 42% (5/12) are meeting Healthy People 2010 target of ≥ 60% HCP flu vaccination • 25% (3/12) are meetingHealthy People 2015 target of ≥ 70% HCP flu vaccination • 17% (2/12) are meetingHealthy People 2020 target of ≥ 90% HCP flu vaccination

Evidence-Based Strategies: Increase HCP flu vaccination rates by: • offering vaccines low-cost or free • on-site vaccination • multiple delivery times • convenient delivery • requirements and declinations
Other Ideas: • Promotional campaigns • Mail, email, pager reminders • Verbal reminders • Mandatory in-service • Educational video or webinar • Offer incentives (coffee cards, etc.) • Friendly competition • Celebrate success!
